Meet the Doctor

Introducing Wayne County and Surrounding Area Chiropractor Dr. Teon Kowalyk

About the Doctor

It did not seem like long ago when I had my first Chiropractic adjustment, however the impact it made on my life still affects me today.  I was attending the University of Western Ontario in Canada completing my Kinesiology degree and pre-med courses.  It was in my second year when I had an experience that changed my entire view of the human body and health care.  Previous to this experience, I was planning on a profession in sports medicine.  Well, before we go on, lets start back from the beginning.

Growing up, I was not one to shy away from potential "risky" behavior.  After racing motocross, mountain bikes, skiing, and engaging in team sports such as football, basketball and rugby, I had my share of injuries.  With a list including broken bones, concussions, a dislocated elbow, broken nose, knee surgery and numerous stitches... it made me realize that there may be a time when this was all going to catch up with me.  And eventually, it did.

Rugby is a sport that I was most, and still am, most passionate about.  While on tour in Ireland back in 1997, I had an unfortunate collision with another rather large player from the opposing side.  While I was able to finish the game and play the rest of the tour, it was months later after returning back to Canada that I started to experience some debilitating health challenges.  I was never one to normally experience any headaches, or even get sick for that matter.  However, I soon started to experience severe migraines that crippled my ability to concentrate and study for exams.  This really started to scared me.  How would I be able to continue with school and complete my degree feeling the way I did?  To add to that, I started to get digestive issues such as heartburn and loss of appetite.  And believe me, I have always loved to eat.  After thorough medical testing by the University hospital, they could not find anything wrong with me and told me I would have to just "get through it," and take medications.

It was at that time that I was referred by a friend to go see a Chiropractor.  I thought Chiropractors were only for back pain, which I was not experiencing.  With the way I was feeling however, I thought I had nothing to lose.  To make a long story short, this Chiropractor found "subluxations" or small misalignments in my spine that no other previous Doctor had even mentioned.  My Chiropractor stated there was stress on my nervous system caused by these subluxations, and that I would need Chiropractic adjustments to get corrected.  After getting these adjustments, not only did I feel returned to normal, but I felt better than ever.  Thankfully, I was able to finish my university degree and continue to play rugby.

The more I learned about Chiropractic, the more I realized that everyone could benefit from an improved functioning nervous system and body.  Drugs and surgery are not always the answer, and I knew that more people should be getting adjusted to prevent problems in the first place.  So it was back in 1997 that my career path was altered to become a Chiropractor.  A profession that has been around for over 100 years with the primary goal of optimal health for every man, women and child.  This was the reason I enrolled into Chiropractic school.

One of the most memorable experiences that I had was providing Chiropractic care while on a Vietnam mission trip in my final year at Palmer College.  Being able to volunteer my time helping those with limited resources become healthier was something I will never forget.

When you come in for your first consultation to my clinic, it is my goal to offer you the most thorough exam and education experience possible.  The more you understand about the function of your body, the more you will be willing to do what is necessary to bring yourself to optimal health.

I use the "whole person approach" when taking care of my wellness members. By combining the very best in chiropractic and soft tissue techniques, along with providing the best natural vitamins and mineral supplements on the market today, it is my goal to help you to accelerate and/or maintain your journey to good health.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you with any health challenges that you may be experiencing.
